Attendance: John Forney, chair, Carol Whitson, Gar Byrum and Carolee Monroe.

Agenda: Added was the communication with Bill Hacket.

MSA (Carolee/Gar) Unanimously approved were the Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting, May 21, 2016 and of the General Membership Meeting, May 30, 2016

President's Report: John is accepting duties as a supervisory volunteer with the National Association of Mental Illness. He will work with people who, having been identified as homeless, will receive residential placement with support services. The California budget now includes $200 million for use with this problem.

FINANCE/TREASURER'S REPORT: Carol distributed a print-out of transactions - year-to-date and she reported a balance of approximately $2700.

PROGRAM & ISSUES: Merrill sent a report on recent programs: the May general membership meeting and June luncheon where Anthony Portantino thanked members for their help and asked for continued support through the November election. John Forney had led a discussion of the various issues and candidates (winners and "losers"). See below for remaining program.

COMMUNICATIONS: Letters received included from Pilgrim Place and Sustainable Claremont re. donation acknowledgements and a request for a donation to the Pasadena area United Democratic Headquarters. The invoice for Courier ad in support of Anthony Portantino will be paid with recent donations specified for it. Ned Freed, webmaster, is transferring data from our old website to the new one. Debi Evans has asked to be an administrator of our Facebook page; Carolee will follow-up with Alex Baracskai.

MEMBERSHIP: Gar and Sandy have the membership list and are beginning to make calls.

POLITICAL STRATEGY: Debi was at the California Democratic Party Executive Board Meeting in Long Beach.

United Headquarters: John has spoken with Bill Hacket of UDH about sharing resources. They will meet and discuss swag and strategy (phone/home visit/literature). John will plan on promoting the DCC through precinct walkers. Carol and John will work on an invitation form.

July 4th : Booth - Swag will include Hillary buttons and bumper stickers. Anthony Portantino, candidate for State Senate District 25, will provide fans. Visitors will be asked to respond to the question, "Why are you proud to be a Democrat?" Responses will be posted on the DCC Facebook page. Life-size cut-outs of Hillary Clinton and President Obama will hold posters, "Vote Hillary". Other candidate and issue printed materials, along with temporary tattoos will be available. There will be a "DUMP TRUMP" display.

Parade - Members of the CHS Young Democrats Club will carry the banner, honorees/vehicles are: President John Forney, CHS YD President Joshua Quintia, SD 25 Democratic candidate Anthony Portantino and WWII US Marine veteran Jim Stripling. A truck will display candidates' (Hillary, Harris, Chu, Portantino and Holden) signs and the message, "Vote Down Ballot".

Voorhis Voice contents/articles: for September- John will include his column; Carolee will submit photos and an article about our July 4th efforts and contact Assemblyman Chris Holden to firm up his article. Merrill will be asked to submit information on September programs. An article about the headquarters is needed.

Village Venture - DCC application submitted and accepted for the October 22 event.

New Business: Merrill will be asked to write a letter to Congressmember Judy Chu, for John to sign, thanking her for her support of HJR 90.

Club Events

  • June meeting - Monday, the 27th - Marjorie Cohn will speak on drone warfare. Begins at 7 PM in the Napier Common Room, Pilgrim Place campus
  • July 4th - booth and parade - "Vote Down Ballot", "Dump Trump" and "Independence Day the Claremont Way"

Other Organizations / Events

  • June 26, Sunday LACDP JFK Awards $125/person - individuals encouraged to attend
